A Study of Internal Framing

I have always been fascinated by the cinematic technique of using borders and barriers to block the audience off from a scene, known as internal framing. This technique can include having to watch the actors through a curtain, or through the holes of a fence, or partially sticking out behind a wall. I believe this composition can be used to elicit many different symbols, emotions, and relationships, and have always been a strong appreciator of it. I believe it adds a level of intimacy between the audience and the film's characters, since we get to peek into these characters lives through various "cracks" in the space. This is why I have decided to use it in my photography to elicit the same effects. In this project, I used this cinematic technique that I learned of in my cinema courses in my photography. The only difference is that my shots are not staged, because I wanted to find these moments naturally in everyday life.
